The title of my post may sound a little different but we live in a desperate situation where we are wasting drinking water due to our recklessness. Drinking or Portable water is a depleting resource and our lack of action to conserve it and lack of awareness makes things only worse.
We need to exercise our choice when water is offered to us for drinking by asking for only that much water that we need. A still better option would be to pour our self the amount of water we want to consume. We should only let a need based amount of water be poured into our glass be it half or quarter glass. By doing so we are doing a great act of conserving water.
We let drinking water drip from the taps and we are so passive in not taking any action and let drinking water go waste. When it come to consuming water our passive actions allow water to go waste by pouring in more water in a glass then we actually consume.
This water could quench the thirst of so many people and we should do our bit to preserve it.
The first action should be never to pour more water then we wish to drink.
When it comes to serving water I have created a little ritual
It is a like a ceremony of sorts and I call it the #cuttingpani aasana
First I carry the water in a nice decanter and carry the empty glasses for the guest in a tray.
I always pour the water chanting “Jalaye Namah” and I bow in reverence as I do it.
After all water gives us life and helps sustain it as well.
The idea is more to create an awareness towards conserving water. We revere the elements as the basic supporters of life so would it not be an insult to waste such an important element?
Besides it would be a good conversation starter for conserving water
I always have a set of coasters that depict my actions
1)Bow to water god and chant “Jalaye Namah”
2)Pour the water
3) Either consume water or if it is being poured for a guest then ask him/her to consume.
I have depicted the steps in the form of 3 coasters that I use to remind everyone the importance of water
here they are
If you find the ritual strange then consider that if we do not preserve drinking water then in just a few years we may not have any drinking water left.
I even offer my guest an empty bottle in case they want to carry the left over water from their drinking glass.
This of-course is the secondary step the first one is to give my guests the option to pour only that much water that is needed by them to be consumed at that given time.
The final step is to encourage people to sign the pledge at
https://www.change.org/p/cuttingpaani and be a part of the campaign to conserve water.
I have posted the designs of these coasters to my instagram in case you want to use the design to recreate these coasters and spread the word about conserving water and spread the cuttingpaani campaign.
I fully support the #CuttingPani initiative by Livepure to save water. It is a project we must support and sign the pledge to save water and bring about the simple changes needed to save water
